San Francisco Top 10 (not in order):
Penninsula and South Bay Top 10:
Other Northern California:
Palo Alto:Evvia
Woodside:  Village Pub
Burlingame:  Kincade's
Burlingame:  Pices
San Mateo:  Viognier
San Mateo:  Kabuls
Palo Alto:  Cafe Riace--Hidden Gem with high quality, if standard Italian food.  Wine prices are not a disaster.
Los Altos:  Amber India

Boulevard--Most consistently wonderful food we have had in the City.  Sit at the counter and watch the artists work.  Atmosphere is busy. Special occasion or eat at the counter.
Fifth Floor--Worthy special occasion choice with wonderful atmosphere to go along with superior cuisine.
Ristorante Milano--The best homemade pasta we have tasted outside of our house and Italy.  The gnocchi is better then I make.  A small neighborhood restaurant.
Ritz-Carlton Dining Room--OK it is a little pretentious, but it ain't bragging if its true.
Rose Pistola--Ingredient-focused simple Italian cuisine inspired by Liguria (think seafood).  One of the best Ciopinno in San Francisco.  Sit at the counter if you can.  If you are going to order the pizzas or other standard fare--go elsewhere.
Slanted Door--Southeast Asian cooking taken to high art, but with out the stuffy atmosphere of some of the other wonderful restaurants we frequent.  Susan's very favorite.
Chez Papa--French Bistro on Potrerro Hill.  Lots of amazing small plate choices.
Through work and play we are fortunate to be able to visit many great restaurants and all ends of the culinary and cost spectrums.  These are our favorites.  Notable are the ones not on the list, since it is likely we have tried them and been disappointed.
French Laundry--Simply nothing like it in our world in terms of innovative excellence.
Olivetto--Very good Italian Fare with wonderful homemade salumi.
Bouchen--French Bistro.  Best mussels and fries I have had (since Lapis is gone anyway).
Other U.S:
New York:  Babbo
New York:  Solera-- Wonderful Tapas
Los Angeles:  Matsuhisa--Nobu Matsuhisa's original restaurant where the incredible sushi is not as good as the the best tempura in the world.
